Regenerative agriculture to reverse climate change, a documentary video

Friday, November 27th, 2015

By Catherine Haug, Nov 2015

“Healthy soils are necessary to feed the world; they are also the planet’s largest carbon sink. This task is for all of us: farmers, gardeners and food consumers. Together, we can heal the earth.” (from an Organic Consumers Association email).

While burning fossil fuels sends carbon into the atmosphere, regenerative agriculture stores carbon in the soil, for a more nutritious food supply and a healthier planet. Learn more from  a PBS documentary, “Food Forward, SOS: Save our Soils” (3). (more…)

Today’s breaking news is good news for those of us opposed to GMOs and the use of toxic pesticides. Both glyphosate (Roundup) and 2,4-D (part of Agent Orange) are known to be toxic and harmful for human health, yet they are heavily sprayed on GMO crops resistant to them, to kill the weeds that compete with the crops. Anyone (human, livestock, etc.)  who eats the crop (corn, soy, and others) gets the poison too. (Note that this product was only recently approved by the EPA in October 2015)

“The EPA said it received new information from Dow AgroSciences – the registrant of Enlist Duo – that suggests two active ingredients could result in greater toxicity to non-target plants.” (1) It then issued a ruling that may effectively end the threat of “Agent Orange Corn.” (more…)

Canon Eye Cup

Canon Eye Cup

When you have something in your eye – liquid or solid – it is very distracting, but can also lead to infection if it isn’t removed. My first experience with an eye wash happened in high school chemistry class. I had a nasty chemical on my fingers, then used them to rub my eye. Shortly after, the eye started to burn and our teacher escorted me to the bench for an eye wash.

When you are out in the wild hiking or camping, carry an eye cup/shot glass in your backpack for emergencies. At home, you can use a bowl, or an eye cup/shot glass. However, an eye cup/shot glass should not be used to remove foreign objects. The wash solution should be sterile. (more…)
